About Our Italian Restaurant & Its Founder
The founder of Guido's, Guido Cipriano, was born in Ravenna, Ohio, on March 15th, 1925. He was the youngest child of Beatrice and Sylvester Cirpriano and his childhood home was on Sycamore Street in Ravenna, just a few blocks away from our current location. Guido, a World War II veteran, married Vivian Pitzer in 1947 and, together, they raised 10 children; 6 boys and 4 girls. | Guido the Insurance Salesman Prior to opening his pizza shop, Guido worked full-time for the National Life Insurance Company™. Many Ravenna residents may remember Guido visiting their homes to discuss their insurance needs. He also held several part-time jobs in an effort to support his growing family. Uncle Augie & Guido's Restaurant In 1965, Guido's sister Mary and her husband Augie founded a pizza business in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, named Augie's Pizza. Uncle Augie and Aunt Mary were generous enough to share their homemade pizza sauce and dough recipes with Guido and were quite instrumental in setting him up in the business. Guido was able to quit his job as a life insurance salesman, in addition to his various part-time jobs, and devote all of his time to Guido's. | | A Family Tradition The restaurant, now owned and operated by Guido's son, Sam Cipriano, currently employs more than 60 people and is located just two blocks away from the original location that opened up back in 1966. | Contact us in Ravenna, Ohio, at (330) 296-9009 to learn about our Italian restaurant. |
